Underlayment

An underlayment plays an integral role in the flooring installation process due to sitting between the sub floor and the decorative top coat. The underlayment allows the coating to sit on top of a smooth surface rather than a rougher, possibly uneven marine deck.

This can be the most important aspect, especially to ensure the longevity of the flooring system. Without a good underlayment the system will always be likely to fail. The most common problem, especially in the marine industry is the effect of moisture. Cracks in the underlayment can expose the steel structure and mineral subfloor to moisture causing rust and structural damage.

Epoxy Floor Finishes

Epoxy floor coatings are commonly used for commercial and industrial flooring. Epoxy coatings are normally applied over concrete floors to provide a high-performance, smooth, and durable surface that can last many years and withstand heavy loads. Many industrial sites, warehouses, and commercial buildings rely on epoxy floors to maintain clean and safe conditions for workers, equipment, and inventory.

An epoxy coating requires a clean and slightly porous surface to adhere properly. Epoxy may not bond to sealed or polished concrete. The concrete also must be fully cured. Before apply epoxy floor coating, it is important to patch and repair all major cracks and chips in the concrete surface and to remove all grease.

If the concrete is old, test the surface for previous layers of epoxy or other products that might have been applied over the years. To test for sealant, pour a small amount of water onto the floor. It should soak in. If the water beads on the surface rather than soaking in, it likely has been sealed and may not be suitable for an epoxy coating. Before applying an epoxy coating, make sure that the temperature is suitable, and follow all manufacturer’s recommendations. Unfavorable temperatures can cause the epoxy to bubble and peel. Epoxy is a two-part liquid that you mix before application. Once the product is mixed, you have a limited time to apply the epoxy coating before it starts to harden.

Vinyl

Vinyl coverings are extremely durable, versatile and maintenance friendly. Vinyl coverings provide a luxurious appearance and a wear-resistant floor for frequent use. There are many choices of patterns, for both glued (on a roll) and click-system (tiles or boards) vinyl floors, including stone or wood look, patterns and unicolour.

Vinyl flooring solutions are used in both homogeneous and heterogeneous manner. All the floors have noise-controlling effects. The vinyl floors are wear resistant; the lifespan depends on the quality and the top layer. This type of floors is suitable for corridors, public areas, sleeping quarters and stairwells on ships.

Carpet

Carpet is a warm and comfortable floor covering, providing a cozy atmosphere to an area. New innovations, such as pre-cut carpet and carpet tiles, enables installation of carpet for every use and in every location on your vessel, ranging from narrow corridors to wide public areas. Choose a carpet from various types of colors and designs. Carpet tiles are often used in crew accommodations and in the corridors of a ship. With carpet tiles you create a soft, warm and comfortable space. In the public areas, mainly on cruise vessels, woven carpet is mostly applied, for which the designs are infinite and available in any custom-made design.

A60 flooring systems

Floors for marine applications are subject to extreme stresses, such as knocks, vibrations and tremors, torsions and shrinkage where failure to adhere are common industry problems. By opting for A60 flooring systems you avoid these challenges. It is designed for ships and oil platforms requiring fire insulating constructions where the material must be non-combustible. You will get functional and durable floors specified for ships having fire insulating constructions with non-combustible materials.
